This week I played around some more with my new alcohol markers. I had some more of the thick acrylic paper I used for the poppy so I used that for this little octopus.
I began with a simple outline which I painted over with watercolour. I wanted a sea green background with patches of sunshine leaking into the water...
Then I laid down a full layer of my lightest colour for the octopus. You can see the colours I chose next to the painting...
I gradually built up the colours and blended them as well as I could. In order to work out which colours to blend I tried a blend of all four on copy paper. To my surprise the copy paper blended the markers much more effectively than the acrylic paper I was using for my final design. I used the acrylic paper because it completely stopped the ink from bleeding through. I wonder if I need to get some different paper for these pens? Maybe they need a certain amount of bleed-through to blend properly? I will have to do some research on that.
